Christian hotel owners taken to court for defending their beliefs

Across the pond, but considering the level of discourse that some in the liberal left have devolved to I wouldn’t be surprised if something similar happens on our own turf considering the increasing attacks on free speech.

A Christian couple have been charged with a criminal offence after taking part in what they regarded as a reasonable discussion about religion with guests at their hotel.

Ben and Sharon Vogelenzang were arrested after a Muslim woman complained to police that she had been offended by their comments.

Although the facts are disputed, it is thought that during the conversation the couple were challenged over their Christian beliefs.

It is understood that they suggested that Mohammed, the founder of Islam, was a warlord and that traditional Muslim dress for women was a form of bondage.

‘It should be used where there is violence, yobbish behaviour or gratuitous personal abuse. It should never be used where there has been a personal conversation or debate with views firmly expressed.

‘If someone is in a discussion and they don’t like what they are hearing, they can walk away.’

The first thing I think of in such an instance is that the “offended” woman is a pansy. Seriously, sticks and stones people – and this isn’t even comparable to a sticks-and-stones’ situation: the woman challenged the couple on their beliefs (no mention is made of the severity of her remarks towards them. Law of probability, folks) and was offended when they played ball? What offended her exactly: the fact that they held different beliefs? And this couple may be punished for challenging this woman’s preconceived notions about their faith?

During a period when unemployment is rising around the world this woman’s “offense” has affected the jobs of some of the hotel staff and may run the couple out of business entirely due to the “controversy.” (I loathe abuse of quotations, but BOY was there ever a post).

This is part of a systematic attempt to squelch free speech by blackmailing people with loss of their jobs and/or business; we saw just that happen here with Whole Foods. Business owners shouldn’t stand for it and neither should conservatives.
