Crisis in Middle East brings out the attention-starved D-listers

Sorry, but I simply cannot be prim, proper, and PC with this.

I love these has-beens who use every rocket launch as an attempt to wrestle a camera on themselves as a way to piggyback their relevance onto a crisis with asinine statements like this:

“Human rights advocate Bianca Jagger, singer Annie Lennox, and politician George Galloway all condemned the Israeli air strikes on Gaza today.

The public figures joined human rights campaigners to call for US president-elect Barack Obama to speak up against the bombardment of Hamas.

Speaking at a press conference in central London, Ms Jagger said: ‘I would like to make an appeal to president elect Obama to speak up.

‘People throughout the world were hopeful when he was elected and we must appeal to him to ask for the immediate cessation of the bombardment of the civilian population in the Gaza Strip.'”

WTF? For what is Bianca Jagger famous? Besides being Mick Jagger’s ex-wife and some tartlet who shimmied her shoulder pads at Studio 54?

Where the hell were these people when Hamas trounced the ceasefire agreement and started lobbing rockets over the boundary at Israel which killed innocents? I know these famewhores are powered by attention and when your image needs a shot in the arm the quickest fix is to issue some nobody-cares statement.

They act as though that all Obama has to do is simply speak peace into existence. How dare he withhold this magic from us!!

“Eurythmics star Lennox said she was ‘shocked to the core’ by the bloody images from the conflict.

‘How was this going to be the solution to peace?,’ she asked.”

I know, right? Because the previous diplomatic negotiations, hence the aforementioned ceasefire agreement? It was totally made up. You know, Israel could solve this problem by just sending a beautiful FTD floral arrangement over to Hamas. Or perhaps a delightful fruit basket – the ones with the pretty cellophane that come with a bonus plush toy? If all else fails Israel could just make Hamas their top friend on Myspace because nothing says “Friends?” like being in the top five, right?

Annie I have always loved you, but you are killing my brain cells here.

What world do you live in where you can pacify a terrorist who thinks your people “should not exist” and that your state be “wiped off the map” with hand-holding? Because I want to to live in that world. I bet it rains kittens and gumdrops there.

“Comedian Alexei Sayle said: ‘I want to feel proud of Israel, I want to be proud of my people but I am ashamed.'”

I don’t even know who this dude is. He is ashamed that his people have the brass to fight back?

Buried in the article are reasons for this conflict:

“International peace efforts aimed at creating an independent Palestinian state foundered after Hamas won elections in 2006 and drove Fatah forces loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas from Gaza a year later.

Hamas called off a six-month truce with Israel last month and stepped up the rocket attacks, complaining at Israeli raids into Gaza and a continuing blockade of the enclave.”

Here’s some truth:

Attacks On Israel Increased Since Hamas Elected

and:

“The proximate cause of the fighting in Gaza was the sharp increase in rocket and mortar attacks on Israeli civilians after Hamas refused to extend its tenuous cease-fire with Israel past Dec. 19. But the deeper cause was the transformation of Gaza into an Iranian proxy and terrorist hub following Israel’s reckless “disengagement” in 2005. Israelis convinced themselves that ethnically cleansing Gaza of its Jews and handing over the territory to the Palestinians would reduce violence and make Israel safer. It did just the opposite.

The hard truth is that no matter how much Israelis crave peace, they cannot achieve it through concessions and compromises and “road maps” – not when their enemies view such overtures and agreements as signs of weakness, and as proof that terrorism works. For 60 years, Israel has had to contend with the hostility of its neighbors and the heavy costs of war; its yearning for peace is understandable. But there will be no peace without victory, and no victory without fighting for it.”
